Some ideas that have come to mind, when discussing Collective Intelligence Communities, are the massive forums that were created to discuss the final book of the Harry Potter series, and the over-arching forums on Playstation Network Forums.
I remember that as a kid my family would sit down together in the evening after dinner and my mom would read the Harry Potter books aloud to all of us. After we finished the sixth book, of course, we were extremely eager to read the next book and find out what happens next. I also remember my mom talking to us about all of the talk and theories of what was going to happen in the last book on the internet. Some of the theories, she said, were backed with logical evidence and of course most were opinionated. In a way, this community was trying to find out what happens before the book was released.
On a different note, similar to the BMW forum, there is a forum on Playstation's website that the general public can go to ask questions or make comments about the system itself or the games that Sony has produced or published. For example, while playing a newer game, I had a major malfunction occur when playing so I went to PSN's forum to express my displeasure and request ideas to fix the problem. I had made a post and had several responses so in way, this was also a community based source of information.
